Life with Braces - What to Expect |
|
Initial Visit Our objective is to make sure your visits with us will be pleasant and informative. Your initial appointment will consist of an examination and a discussion of potential treatment options. This important visit will address the orthodontic needs of you or your child. There is no charge for the initial examination by Dr. Rifkin. Diagnostic Records & Treatment Planning If it is determined that treatment is indicated, you will be scheduled for diagnostic records. These records usually consist of study models, diagnostic photographs and orthodontic x-rays. Once these orthodontic records have been obtained, Dr. Rifkin will review them and determine a specific treatment plan for your orthodontic needs. We will review our diagnosis and necessary treatment plan at your consultation appointment. Regular Appointment The appointment when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, retainers etc.) usually takes from one to two hours. You'll then see us at regular intervals 4 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 20 to 40 minutes. Our regular office hours are Monday and Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment please notify us immediately. Cancel only if it is an emergency. Payment and Office Policies The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We have payment plans to suit different budgets. We do our best to make orthodontics affordable. Fees In an effort to keep orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy: · If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer a fee discount. If you have insurance, we offer a discount for payment of your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance. · To fit your individual needs, a contract will be arranged to extend your payment over a period of months. · For your convenience, we accept payment by VISA, MasterCard and Discover. · In cases of serious delinquency, treatment will be discontinued, although we will make every effort to accommodate patients with temporary difficulties. General Dental Care Patients are encouraged to visit their general dentist for routine card during their orthodontic treatment. Your general dentist will be informed of your orthodontic needs and the proposed treatment methods. He will also be informed of your progress throughout treatment. Communication between dentist, orthodontist and patient is essential. The success of your treatment is only as good as the continued maintenance of oral health during and after orthodontic therapy. Athletics A protective mouth guard is advised for playing contact sports. We will supply a mouth guard to protect your teeth and braces if you wish. In case of an accident involving the face, check your mouth and appliances immediately. If teeth are loosened or the appliances damaged, phone our office at once for an appointment. |
